Ok, so I read a story today on yahoo about a girl who is recovering from bubonic plague. Wow really in this day and how do contract black death you ask? Well you play with a dead squirrel. As a nursing major I am fascinated by the thought that people still get this. This seven year old girl had a 107 fever and whatnot and survived. In the middle ages when this disease was in its prime it killed millions. It speaks wonders for medicine today. However you have to wonder with all the vaccines we have and subject our children to how do we not have a vaccine for this?

Photographs for Portrait Day Yeah
This a photo taken by Dorthea Lang. It is the migrant mother. I love how you can see sadness of the era. The great depression was such an important time in history. You see how she is in the make shift tent with her children, probably starving and obviously thinking on the hardships she is facing with her children.
This is a piece of semi local history. I love that this family is standing in front of their house just outside Miller Grove. They are the Mooney family and the photographer is unknown.
Just love this photo by Charles C. Ebbets. Where do you think he was standing?
Abstract from the master
I am fascinated by Picasso. He took people ( namely his mistress and later his wife ) and painted them. He was married to Olga when he met Marie-Therese Walter. This is the painting where Olga realized that they were not her features and left Picasso. He never married Marie-Therese Walter. I love abstract because it shows how the painter sees the world or their subjects.
The Starry Night By Vincent Van Gogh is absolutely interesting. I like how massive the north star is almost like a sun in the dark. This painting has gives me a feeling like something is creeping in on the town, and you can't help but watch. This has always been one of my favorite paintings.

My sunshine life
1. Name, phone #, and e-mail: Nah, nevermind. I know this already...but please tell me the address for your class blog.
2. What’s your major? What year will you graduate? My major is human performance specifically nursing 2015 is my graduation year.
3. Why did you choose a photography class (or photography as a major), and what do you hope to learn from school in general and this class specifically? I was given two choices and this one sounded fun. I hope to learn something interesting to add enrichment to my life.
4. What are your goals after graduation? Please list your goals in reverse order, starting five years out, then three, two, one, and six months. In five years I will be working on my masters in nursing, living on a beach, and working at a hospital emergency room. In three years I will be graduating with my BSN. In two years I will be working my booty off at school. In one year I will be moving to Midland TX. In six months I will be studying, working at The Kilted Monkey and The little Chef.
5. What artists, musicians, photographers, writers, movies, books have influenced you/your work? I was really influenced books the most. Most recently a book about Lincoln and the Cake Boss.
6. Where do you get information about current national and international events? I surf the web for current national and international events. I like yahoo, the New York Times and a few sites my boss translates for me.
7. Are there any important websites that you are referencing for art/photo competitions and/or information?
8. What museums and/or galleries have you been to in the past year? I have been to the Dallas Museum of Art. I also like the Art district in Dallas.
9. Have you had any photo projects and/ or training in the past? NO
10. What is the value of art for the artist? Priceless They usually put a great deal of themselves in their work.
11. What is the value of art for the audience? It depends on the audience. One person might think that it is worth a million. However the next person or audience to view the works might think they are horrible.
12. Is photography a vocation or an avocation?
13. What is your passion? My passion is horses. Recently however my passion has been the VA benefits for soldiers. I have been in contact with Kay Hutchinson and the staff at the Whitehouse. I have so many friends who fought for our country and can barely get the health care that should come easily to them. Cancer patients wait two and three months to get an appointment with oncology. Returning vets wait a year for their first appointment. I think someone should be working to stream line the process and that we are just backed up is not a good enough answer.
14.What are you afraid of? What makes you uncomfortable? I am not afraid of anything. I am uncomfortable talking in front of big groups. I just don't like public speaking at all
15. Do you have a passport? No I do not have a passport
16. Why did you sign up for this class? What do you hope to learn from it? I had a choice and this is the most interesting of the two. and I hope to learn about life from a different angle.
